Lampre-ISD widens its horizons to Latin America signing for 2013 the first Venezuelan cyclist in the blue-fuchsia history. General manager Giuseppe Saronni, in fact, completed the agreement with Miguel Armando Ubeto Aponte, who was born in Caracas on the 2nd of September 1976. Ubeto Aponte, who spent 2012 season in Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela, had in his palmaresmore than 20 successes that were obtained in Latin America races: the most important are the Venezuelan National title (2011), Vuelta Ciclista a Venezuela 2012 and 8 stages won in career in the demanding Vuelta al Tachira. The best season for Miguel was the 2011, with 7 victories that allowed him to become the winner of the UCI America Tour.
The opportunity of racing in a World Tour team makes Ubeto Aponte very excited, as he explained in a video interview that was published at the address http://www.teamlampreisd.com/videos/il-team-lampre-isd-presenta-ubeto-aponte/: “I thanks Team Lampre-ISD for having given me this chance. It’s every Venezuelan kid’s dream to become a member of a top level team, so I’m so happy to have signed for blue-fuchsia team. In the past years I trained a lot in order to achieve victories and professional goals, such the participation in London 2012, now I’ll focus all my energies on this new experience”.
Giuseppe Saronni, general manager, commented the choice of signing Ubeto Aponte: “Despite the fact he’s not anymore a young athlete, Miguel could still profit from a physical freshness that supported him in obtaining the UCI America Tour title, the National champion jersey and in taking part in the Olympic Games. The attaint of Ubeto Aponte in our team is in accord with the new trend of the modern cycling, that is turned towards a worldwide expansion: also for a World Tour team as Team Lampre-ISD is, the internationalization is fundamental for the image of the team and for contacting potential new investors, in addition to the importance that is givev by the new ranking rules that are set by UCI”.
